Research development
I have chosen the word ‘Division’ for my photography project.
Photography word: Division
Keywords:
- Math (multiplying and subtracting)
- Math (tracing images and flipping)
Idea:
- Adding things to an image or area
- Multiple items in an image (close-ups)
Photographer influences
Eugène Atget
Atget worked on a serious based on places in France that had been left behind. Empty and forgotten he photographed these places to show what would have been once busy and full of life.
– I want to take inspiration from this by looking into the division between time. So, I thoughts for some of the image in my final project would be in a busy city center to show multiplication between people, another image would show the same place but subtract the people from the image. The buildings will still be the same but the feeling of emptiness will feel more real, just like Atget’s view on his images. I will not be using photoshop, I will be waiting for the hours of the day in which the city will be empty (after 5pm and before 7am)

Final images linking to Division (Math) words
Architecture between humans and man-made objects. showing that once we take ourselves away from city structures they lose character. All 6 images will be around buildings and society (people) and the change humans have.
The words to each image will be the link between division. for example 1. Busy City: Multiply the link between people and buildings, where’as people are constantly moving, buildings only go up and down, the next image 2. Empty City: Subtract will show what happens/ whats left after we are gone.
- Busy City: Multiply
- Empty older location: Subtract (decreasing numbers)
- Cut off point: Divide
- perfectly structured building: Equals
- Flat area (more to this area): Plus
- Uneven landscape: Minus
Each picture overlook:
- Bringing character and movement
- Lack of character
- An old building that is divided by the constant improvement we put into life, leaving the divide between new and old. New= needed, Old= not (left to crumble without sustainability)
- A perfect and untouched environment showing the contrast between image 3 to 4. image 3 will relate to old and image 4 will show new.
- 6: contrast between different landscapaes
